The Department of public health dentistry believes in delivering the dental services at the doorsteps, unlike the other departments of dentistry. The department provides indoor and outdoor services to the patients. The indoor services include patient management (Comprehensive cases, clinical case discussion, one to one personalized training regarding preventive dental services to PG students on patients), PG and UG teaching, field visits, project assignments, seminars, discussions, journal clubs, research training and funding projects sponsored by various funding agencies by both UG and PG students. Innovative methods of learning are being implemented to enrich the process of learning. Emphasis is placed on activity based learning and active learning. The various national and international days, weeks and months are celebrated by the department which focuses on the health and overall being of the community through skits, role-plays and nukkad nataks to educate and motivate the individual at community level. The department is also involved in delivering tobacco cessation activities at institutional level and community level.
OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Public Health Dentistry deals with the prevention and control of oral diseases and promotion of oral health through organized community efforts. It includes research on oral health care and general dentistry at the outreach levels The faculty and postgraduates at the department are involved in organizing out-reach dental care camps which helps render dental health care to the people at their doorsteps and focus on prevention of oral disease by applying topical fluoride, pit and fissure sealant and fluoride varnish.
Teaching
The Department Of Public Health Dentistry, Rohtak is involved with training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the theoretical and practical aspects of dental public health, as well as in oral health research. In addition to this, the department is involved in various health programmes, social welfare initiatives, rural health and school health programmes. Our mission is to promote oral health and provide resources towards the same, involve people in their own health, to be a trusted resource for oral health information in the community, to conduct research and identify effective strategies for improvement of oral health, to influence public policy and legislation in a positive manner and to practice and promote evidence- based dentistry. Under graduate students and postgraduate students are trained to deliver services to vulnerable community through Mobile Dental Unit. Two peripheral satellite care centers are established (General hospital, Beri and Community Health Center, Chirhi) by the college. Students are assigned duties to these centers regularly and on rotation. These centers provide a rich clinical experience to the students. The department is actively involved in organizing health promotional events on the occasion of World Health Day, World No Tobacco Day, World Oral Health Day and other days of public health importance. The Department also manages “TRIAGE” of the patients and screens for presence of COVID-19 disease.
Mission
The department is engaged in continuous delivery of dental services at community level through mobile dental van. The Department has two outreach centers (satellite centers) which are fully equipped with dental chairs and services are provided by the PG students accompanied by the interns on the principles of equitable distribution. The services include preventive, promotive and curative to patients at all the levels of health care. Students are posted to these centers regularly and on rotation. These centers provide a rich clinical experience to the students. The department is also involved in organizing, planning, implementing and monitoring dental camps at school and village level to cater the services to the needy population. The department has been continuously delivering services to various rehabilitation centers such as socially deprived population and intellectually disabled population.
